After an impressive five-year run as the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs, Eric Bieniemy has now accepted the Washington Commanders OC job. While people less qualified than him are getting head coach jobs, Bieniemy accepts a new challenge to prove to the league that he can be a good coach without 2-time league MVP Patrick Mahomes as his quarterback.

Eric Bieniemy has been interviewing for a head coach job for a long time, but somehow the NFL owners tend to dismiss his achievements because they credit his success mostly to Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. So now, he has accepted a different OC job where he will be facing the challenge of potentially working with a rookie quarterback.

Amidst this situation, ESPN analysts Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser did not like that Bieniemy has to accept another OC job to prove his worth. Furthermore, they also did not like that he accepted the job of a dysfunctional and toxic Commanders organization. During the recent episode of their show PARDON THE INTERRUPTION, the duo sounded off about the whole situation.

“Something is forced on him that should not be forced on him, he should be a head coach by now,” said Wilbon about Bieniemy. “I hate this, he’s going from one of the most smoothly franchises in all of sports, certainly in the NFL, to a place that’s dysfunctional and toxic.”

Tony Kornheiser also shared the same sentiment as his co-host Wilbon that the former Chiefs OC Bieniemy should have gone somewhere else if he wanted to prove his talents instead of accepting the Commanders’ job.

“I don’t (know) Eric Bieniemy and I don’t know what his long-term goal is,” stated Kornheiser in a recent episode of his show. “But if he feels that to become a head coach, he needs to go away from Andy Reid and prove something somewhere else, I understand why he might feel that. Like you, I don’t think this is the right place to land.

He went on to claim that Bieniemy won’t be able to look good with his new team, the Commanders. “When you call games from Patrick Mahomes and you call for these guys (Sam Howell and Carson Wentz) It’s just different, I don’t think he can look good,” said Kornheiser. “If you want to go somewhere, go somewhere else.”

In the end, they both ended up agreeing that Bieniemy might not have had other chances to prove himself and that’s why he took the Commanders’ OC job. Anyhow, now that he has moved on from the Chiefs and the 2-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, fans will know in about a year how good Bieniemy is in the league.
