The New England Patriots did not have a good game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. They came into the game on the back of a hard-fought win against the New York Jets but failed to make any impact against the Cowboys. Patriots’ QB Mac Jones was benched during the game as the Patriots were hammered 38-3 in Dallas.
Former Jets coach and current ESPN analyst Rex Ryan has been a harsh critic of Jones throughout his NFL career. He did not miss this opportunity and slammed the Patriots QB for his ‘awful’ performance against the Dallas-based team. He called Jones a ‘peashooter’ and said that the QB does not have any arm talent.
“Are you referring to peashooter Jones?” Ryan joked during the GetUp show on Monday Morning. “Here’s the thing: The guy doesn’t have a whole lot of arm-talent. I’ve said it from [the] jump, maybe the weakest arm for all starting quarterbacks in the league.” He further continued by saying, “Give me a guy that has a worst arm than this cat? It doesn’t happen. He doesn’t have the power to throw it outside the numbers or vertically.
“Why do they throw all those screens? I love his completion percentage. Yeah, he’s throwing screens and hitches and things like that. When he has to make plays, he can’t make them, and that’s a simple fact.” Ryan concluded by saying, “I don’t hate, I’d have to defend against everybody. I would love to defend against this guy. Are you kidding me? Like, this guy can’t throw.”
Jones had a terrible game against the Cowboys, throwing for 150 yards and two interceptions for a touchdown. He was later benched once the game got out of the Pats hands. The Patriots will look to bounce back from this terrible loss as they host the New Orleans Saints in their next game on Sunday.
Bill Belichick opened up about the decision to bench QB Mac Jones
The New England Patriots got blown away by the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. The Pats weren’t able to score a single touchdown as QB Mac Jones threw two picks and was benched in the second half. HC Bill Belichick opened up about that decision after the game.
“I didn’t think there was any point in leaving him in the game,” Belichick said when asked about replacing Jones with backup QB Bailey Zappe in the second half of the game. He was also asked about whether the decision was made because of Jones’ bad performance, to which the HC said, “No, I said there was no point in leaving him out there, so I took him out.”
The Patriots have slipped to 1-3 after the loss and will hope to bounce back in their upcoming games. They will play the New Orleans Saints next Sunday at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. It will be interesting to see how Jones performs after a lackluster showing on Sunday.
