The Atlanta Falcons are running thin at wide receivers after they traded Julio Jones in the 2021 off-season and failed to retain Russell Gage in the 2022 off-season. Even the remaining Falcons’ wide receivers are not having a good year.

Their star receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended for the whole 2022 season since he was involved in sports betting. They ended up trading Ridley to the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he will play next year. Now another Falcons receiver is involved in legal trouble, this time a practice squad WR. Following a physical altercation with a police officer that developed into a chase, Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad wideout Cameron Batson has been arrested after gunshots were fired on Saturday.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that at about two in the morning on Saturday, police stopped Cameron Batson on I-75. According to the officer, Batson was stopped because he was driving too fast and drifting out of his lane. Batson failed the field sobriety test that was conducted by the officer, which eventually led to try to arrest him.

However, Batson started resisting the arrest and tried to run away from the officer. So the cop started to fire his gun at the WR, despite that Batson was able to get back into his vehicle and tried to flee the location before he crashed his car. No one was injured by the gunshots, but Batson was sent to a local hospital for treatment.

Following the Cameron Batson incident, the Atlanta Falcons released a statement in which they said that they would not take the situation lightly. Cameron Batson was arrested after a chase on Sunday.

“We have been made aware of an overnight incident involving Cameron Batson. And are currently gathering information from law enforcement agencies,” Falcon’s statement read. “We take this matter seriously and have no further comment at this time.”

Cameron Batson was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tennessee Titans in 2018. He was signed by the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent in the 2022 off-season. The Texas-tech product has caught 22 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns in his NFL career.

As for the Falcons, this would not affect them, since he rarely played for them. They have two 1st round pass catchers Kyle Pitts and Drake London on their roster and will look to add some more in the upcoming NFL off-season.
