The Green Bay Packers finally moved on from 4x NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers as they traded him to the New York Jets. With Jordan Love finally being the starter after being on the bench for three years, the first move from the Packers’ front office was to give him weapons down the field.
With the 13th overall pick, the Packers drafted Iowa outside linebacker Lukas Van Ness. He didn’t start a single game in Iowa but is said to be a great and productive player. Many fans trolled them for not selecting Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba with that pick because he is the best wideout in this year’s draft.
Finally, in the second round, Green Bay selected Oregon State TE Luke Musgrave 42nd overall and Michigan State WR Jayden Reed 50th overall. They also added a tight end from South Dakota State, Tucker Kraft. The Packers now have depth in their offense and Love has a lot of help in his first season as a starter.

Jayden Reed filled the gap the Packers had in the receiving corps

The Packers were heavily criticized for selecting Jayden Reed over Jalin Hyatt. Reed played at Michigan State where he recorded 636 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns last season. On the other hand, Hyatt had 1,267 yards for 15 touchdowns on 67 receptions. Hyatt was picked by the New York Giants 73rd overall.
Jalin Hyatt was also voted a unanimous All-American last year, and he won the 2022 Fred Biletnikoff Award. Additionally, Reed is slightly on the lighter side of size but has speed in his corner. The Packers have never really liked big receivers and Reed fits right in their sweet spot. The 23-year-old is a great slot receiver which is something the team needs on the offense.
However, Packers fans were extremely disappointed that the team selected Reed over Hyatt. Mainly because Hyatt is a more decorated receiver and Reed suffered multiple injuries in his senior year. Here’s how fans expressed their disappointment with this selection.
Now that the Packers are loaded on offense, it’ll be amazing to see Green Bay without Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers under the center. There are a lot of great expectations from Jordan Love. Let’s see how Love performs with the abundance of talent surrounding him!
