“Time to let him go” – Bill fans jump on the possibility of creating $17.5 million cap space in 2024 by trading Von Miller
The Bills should quickly make a decision about Von Miller; otherwise, they might suffer a big dead-cap hit.

The Buffalo Bills need to decide Von Miller. He wasn’t the same after going through major knee surgery. It obviously affected the edge rusher’s performance during the 2023 season, failing to record a single sack in 14 games.
On top of that, Miller is getting older, and naturally, he has shown signs of deteriorating. He will be 35 on March 26 and almost 2 years removed from his surgery. So the question is: would the once-Super Bowl MVP regain his lost prowess? Or the Bills move on from him.
There’s hardly any upside to either of those options. First of all, if the Bills did decide to release the two-time Super Bowl winner, then they would be left with a massive amount of dead-cap space. A total of a whopping $32.5 million, which will increase after March 18 to $39 million.
The resulting dead-cap hit would be the third highest in the league’s history, behind Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers. Bills front office perhaps isn’t ready to edge their name into another negative statistic.
So what they can try to do is stretch that dead cap over the next two years to ease the situation. Miller will earn $23.7 million against the cap, with a base salary of $17 million. If the Bills release him in the spring, then he would cost them $32 million in dead money, which they could extend to $17 million this year and $15 million in 2024.
What’s the next course of action for the Buffalo Bills about Von Miller’s contract?
There’s another path that the Bills can adopt. They can designate Miller as a post-June 1 release. It would allow them to release Miller before his March 18 deadline. He will still get counted in the salary cap of the Bills which is $23 million, until June 1.
Now there’s a downside to this move. Even if they save money on cap space, they won’t have much time to get the desired player by that time. Primarily, free agency would be pillaged by then. But football fans believe that the Bills should release Von Miller and save money on the cap.
Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:
If the Bills listen to the fans and decide to swallow the dead cap hit, then they will be left with another big problem. It’s very hard to find a top-tier linebacker every year. On top of that, Leonard Floyd, A.J. Epenesa, and Shaq Lawson are all entering free agency.
This is not favorable news for the Bills. The best course of action would be to keep Miller for the 2024 season. He appears to be fit after a long time, and a fit Von Miller can easily get 10 sacks a season. If possible, draft a rookie to learn under him while he is there and can replace him in the future.
