The Minnesota Vikings hosted the Detroit Lions at the U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday. The Lions came into the game on the back of a blowout win over the Denver Broncos. Vikings, on the other hand, had suffered a close loss against the Cincinnati Bengals in their last game. The Lions were 10-4 whereas the Vikings had a record of 7-7.
The NFL referees have been under a lot of scrutiny this season. There are controversial decisions in every game and the officials have come under fire throughout the season. The officials for the Lions-Vikings game made another contentious call during the second quarter.
The refs called a rather contentious roughing the passer penalty on Vikings’ Pat Jones II. The call came on a 2nd and 26 which gave the Lions a first down, which ended up in three points for the Lions.
It garnered a lot of criticism on social media as fans blamed the refs for not being consistent enough with the calls. It seemed like Jones tried his best to avoid Lions’ QB Jared Goff‘s head and neck area while making the play and caught him in the chest.
The call resulted in three points for the Lions as they took the lead. Ultimately, the Detroit franchise delivered the biggest gift of the holiday season on Christmas Eve with a 30-24 win over the Minnesota team. With this, the Lions have now officially secured their first division title in 30 years.

Fans on social media slammed the referees for their bogus call and urged the NFL to fix the officials’ problem. A lot of games this season have been marred by decisions from the officials this season and they have been under constant fire from the NFL community. Here are some of the reactions to the call.
The Vikings lost the game 24-30 against the Lions and have now slipped to 7-8. The Lions on the other hand have improved to 11-4 and are now half a game behind the Niners in the NFC. They also clinched the NFC North title with a win against the Vikings.
