In a very exciting wildcard playoff game between the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins, the Bills held their nerve to beat the Dolphins 34-31 and justify their amazing regular season performances, and made it to the divisional playoffs. The Bills were the favorites going into the game, but to their surprise, the Dolphins gave them a very tough fight, and the AFC East champs would consider themselves lucky to cross the finishing line.
The Bills led 34-24 after the third quarter and it looked like the Bills will run away with the game easily but the Dolphins weren’t done. The Dolphins, led by Skylar Thompson, played inspiring football in the fourth quarter and even scored a touchdown to narrow the deficit to 3 points. With around a minute left on the clock, the referee made a strange call during one of the Bills’ drives. They just needed to score a first down to clinch the game and RB Devin Singletary rushed with the ball for an attempted first down.
The Bills players claimed that they have scored the first down while the Dolphins players were adamant that Singletary was short by a few yards. In the end, the referees called the play first down as a result of which the Bills knocked the Dolphins out.
On TV, it looked like Singletary was short by a few yards off the orange line, but after multiple replays, the actual line was different from the orange line used for the TV. Whatever may be the case, the call was very controversial and could’ve been better given that a team’s season was on the line.

Fans were not at all happy with the ruling and accused the referees and the NFL of foul play. According to them, the first down shouldn’t have been given, and it was only called to make things easier for the Bills. Fans accused the NFL of wanting entertainment over fair competition and slammed them for a series of bad calls throughout the game.
The Buffalo Bills will now play the Cincinnati Bengals in the divisional playoff next week on Sunday night in order to have a chance at Super Bowl this season. While the Bills had a better regular season as compared to the Bengals, they won’t be the overwhelming favorites going into the game.
