High school football in the United States is more than just a sport, which can be sometimes beautiful and sometimes downright ugly. During a recent high school football game in Florida, things turned ugly as one of the players ended up viciously attacking his opponent, which led to the player getting suspended.
During last week’s high school football game between Blountstown High School and Marianna High School, Blountstown defender Gavin Lambeth tackled Marianna’s Ethan Lipford in a typical play in the third quarter of the game. But after the tackle, Lambeth mounted on top of Lipford and slammed the Marianna player’s head on the turf.
Furthermore, Lambeth then continued to bash Lipford’s head repeatedly with his helmet. Lipford had to be air-lifted to a hospital 50 miles away for treatment. The video footage of this shocking incident was shared on social media and many people were p*ssed off the Blountstown player’s actions.
“This isn’t an athlete caught up in the heat of the game.. this is a felony assault that could rise to attempted murder…,” commented one user under the viral video. Blountstown head coach Greg Jordan has also come under fire for his player’s shocking behavior.
As a result of the incident, Lambeth was ejected from the game and will receive a mandatory one-game suspension. The incident is still under investigation and the Florida High School Athletic Association might take further actions once their investigation is concluded. The victim, Ethan Lipford, suffered a concussion due to the beating but is now back home and recovering.
Florida High School football player Gavin Lambeth charged

A new update on the incident in the high school football game reveals that the offensive lineman Ethan Lipford continued to play the game for a few plays despite the injury.
Lipford only left the game during the final minutes of the fourth quarter approximately 17 minutes after the lineman’s altercation with Blountstown defender Gavin Lambeth.
According to a report by WJHG, a doctor examined Lipford on the sidelines when the Marianna player started to show concussion-like symptoms, including wobbly legs. It was at that point that Lipford was transferred to a hospital for further treatment.
Lipford has been discharged from the hospital and is now recovering at home. On the other side, Lambeth appeared before a judge on September 13, who ordered him to a juvenile facility while the State Attorney’s Office investigated the incident according to reports. The Florida High School Athletic Association has started its own investigation and will take further actions once its ongoing investigation concludes.
