Jarryd Hayne was an American football player who played as a running back for the San Francisco 49ers during the 2015 season. He was accused of raping a woman at her Newcastle home back in 2018.

And now, nearly after 5 years and three trials, the former 49ers fullback has been found guilty of sexual assault after an 11-day trial in Sydney’s JMT District Court. The jury, which consisted of 6 men and 6 women, convicted Hayne of raping the unnamed victim. He is now facing a maximum of possibly 14 years of jail time.

The first trial of this case, which happened in Newcastle in 2020, ended with a hung jury. During the second trial, Hayne was convicted of raping the woman and spent 9 months in prison before he successfully appealed the decision. And now, a third trial has also found the former NRL star guilty of performing oral and digital sex on a woman without her consent.

Hayne and the woman were communicating on social media for multiple weeks before they decided to meet at her home. “I’m not gonna lie, I imagined what it would be like to be f***ing you when you started talking,” the woman said in a direct message to Hayne on Instagram.

The day the incident happened, Hayne met the woman at her house. The former 49ers RB asked her to sing along and play songs on her laptop. Things went south when she noticed the taxi waiting for him outside her home. The woman said that when she saw the taxi, she felt like an “absolute s*it.” Furthermore, she also said that Hayne forcibly kissed her and pulled her jeans down to sexually assault her despite saying “no” and “stop.”

After the conviction, the former San Francisco 49ers running back and the NRL star Jarryd Hayne claims he’s 100% innocent and revealed that he plans to appeal the decision. According to the NRL star, he refutes the sexual assault accusations and claims that she kissed him back and took off her own pants.

“I never lied to police, I never deleted evidence, I never hid witnesses, do the maths,” Hayne said. “Did I lie? Did I lie? That’s factual evidence.” According to reports, Haynes refused to comment when he was asked if he thought that he had a fair trial.

Jarryd Hayne is one of the many Australian athletes that tried their luck in American football. The 6’2″ running back played in 8 games for the 49ers and registered 155 all-purpose yards and 3 fumbles.
