Hunter Niswander has handled pressure situations for the ‘Americas Team’ the Dallas Cowboys, but even he probably wasn’t ready for what was about to go down on Friday night. The well-traveled punter went through a lot of emotions when his pregnant wife, Corinne Niswander, went into labor.

Niswander indicated through Twitter that he had delivered his son. It’s wonderful to hear, but that’s just the gist of the even bigger news. According to the 29-year-old, his wife’s baby was born on the side of the road in Solon, a suburb of Cleveland.

Niswander wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

My wife is a champ! And God is so good! Mama and baby are doing great! And yes, I got to deliver our baby on the side of the highway! Shoutouts to our local fire department and EMTs. You all got there so fast and helped tremendously!

He quoted a tweet report from the North East Ohio Police and Fire Scanner account that shared:

A female gave birth in her car, and the baby is awake and crying.

Who is Hunter Niswander?

James Hunter Nisawnder was born in Peninsula, Ohio. Niswander attended Woodridge High School, where he set the state record for most consecutive extra points made (111) and the school’s longest field goal made (53 yards).

After finishing school, he enrolled at Northwestern University, where he redshirted as a freshman but was a backup behind Chris Gradone. As a sophomore, he got the nod as the starter and played every game, averaging 42.8 yards.

As a junior, Niswander ranked fourth in the Big 10 conference with a 41.3 punt average, which rose to 43 yards in his senior year. His 9,305 punting yards with the Wildcats are a program record.

He decided to go for a tryout with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2018, but that did not pan out the way he had hoped. Later, the USFL-side DC Defenders selected Niswander in the fifth phase of the draft. But COVID-19 cut off his career.

However, when one door closes, another opens. He was signed by the Dallas Cowboys for their practice squad after punter Chris Jones was placed on injured reserve in April 2021. But after just one season, the Cowboys waived Niswander and wiped him off. Currently, he plays for USFL side Houston Gamblers.
