The former Dallas Cowboys linebacker, Rolando McClain, had been waiting for this day for seven years. On one dusky evening in 2016, the LB received a suspension for violating the league’s program and policy for substance abuse. His career was finished when his franchise released him after three years.
Seven years down the line. The Cowboys star received approval to start his second inning in the league. The NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, lifted his suspicion to come back to the league.
The former linebacker is the happiest one to receive the news. He was playing basketball with his three children.
I can talk now. It gives me a break!Pausing his game for a short time, the player said
The former player did not lose hope despite suffering all odds.
I never planned to not return to football. I'm still 'me' in every way; I laugh (at the skepticism). Why bother? I'm ready for the NFL now. Like riding a bike! Football is life. I love the game.In an exclusive interview with Sports Illustrated
The LB, who was once coined as one of the charts by the Cowboys HC Jason Garrett, who is now working as a financial adviser, now needs a call from an NFL team. He has put off a bit of weight and still looks healthy.
However, his return to the league is uncertain. He is 34 years old and has been out of the regular game for seven years. His former franchise has one of the finest defensive lineups in the league. Since the league has almost come to an end, his recruitment seems almost impossible this year. The veteran can wait for the next season to get a call.
McClain had a tumultuous career in the league
Despite strong attire on the gridiron and good individual stats, the former LB had a career coupled with appreciation on one hand and hazards on the other. He earned the respect and trust of his coaches. In both college football and professional football, he was a known figure for his performance.
However, his reckless lifestyle became a cause for concern for him and his franchises. He received a four-game suspension in 2015 for violating the league’s policy. He also missed 10 games in the next season. While returning from that, he received a ban for a lifetime.
The SEC Defensive Player of the Year award winner was also arrested nearly three times between 2011 and 2013. With all these, it became very difficult to continue football.
