This season has truly been magical for the San Francisco 49ers. Not only did they dominate the NFC throughout the 2023–24 season, but they also claimed back-to-back wins in the playoffs, leading them straight to the Super Bowl. And though the team was lauded, quarterback Brock Purdy didn’t quite receive the same treatment.

Despite the second-year quarterback leading the NFL MVP as the favorite, many questioned his contributions to the Niners’ dominating performances.

One such comment that remained in the headlines even today was by Cam Newton for calling Purdy a ‘game manager.

They’re [49ers] not winning because of him [Brock Purdy]. He’s managing the game.

However, when Purdy posted a monumental outing in the NFC championship game win against the Detroit Lions, it gave the perfect opportunity to his teammate and linebacker Fred Warner to hit back at Newton’s comment in the most subtle manner.

In the postgame interaction with NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jennifer Lee Chan, Warner was asked about his thoughts on Purdy leading the 49ers to their epic victory, and his response turned into the most hilarious troll aimed at Purdy’s detractors for the game manager’s comment.

Heck of a game manager, wow. Managed the heck out of that game.
The linebacker said.

Though Purdy received a lot of raised eyebrows from outside, his peers didn’t leave his side, and neither did head coach Kyle Shanahan. And it was their belief in the quarterback that he managed to storm back and score the 27 unanswered points in the second half.

How Brock Purdy turned the tide for the Niners in the NFC Championship

For the first halftime of the game, it seemed like Purdy’s pundits were right, as the quarterback was struggling to push the ball around and hardly logged 7 out of 15 passes for 93 yards. In addition to that, the Niners were at a 17-point deficit in halftime.

However, when the 49ers came from the locker room for the second half, something appeared to shift. The defense took off, and so did Purdy, who completed 13 of 16 passes.

With a combined 315 total yards, the second-year quarterback made history by recording the highest total yards by a QB in the Niners’ history of NFC title game wins.

While talking to the media, head coach Shanahan didn’t hold back for a second, giving credit where it was due.

This dude made it happen.

He even highlighted the quarterback’s role in the Niners’ epic victory.
