Davante Adams became one of the most expensive wide receivers in the NFL when the Las Vegas Raiders granted him a $141.25 million extension. The money mattered to a degree, but the six-time Pro Bowler came to play with his former college teammate Derek Carr.

Unfortunately, that reunion lasted only a season, as Carr was traded to the New Orleans Saints at the start of this season. As a replacement, two-time Super Bowl appearance maker Jimmy Garoppolo was brought in to steady the ship. Many thought Adams and Jimmy G would be a perfect match for each other.

That hasn’t been the case for the Raiders fans, as they see their team perform worse as each game passes. The tension within the locker room has been building because of the disappointing results, and they even held an open session where every player could put forward their views on the current situation.

It did little on Monday night, as they lost 26-14 to an impressive Detroit Lions team. Adams has been vocal about not seeing the ball enough in the last couple of weeks, and the return of Garoppolo after a week’s gap due to injury seemed like the ideal situation.

However, the 30-year-old only received the ball once from seven targets and gained 11 yards the entire night. That’s troubling considering he has only one game with 100 yards this season and has not scored a touchdown in five games. Naturally, anyone would be frustrated with such a shambolic start, and it showed up on the Ford Field sidelines.

In the dying embers of the game, the camera pointed at Davante Adams, who threw his helmet on the ground. He could be heard saying: 

Tired of this fuc*** bulls***.

Because of the constant poor results, head coach Josh McDaniels has been the subject of immense criticism from analysts, fans, and even a section of the players. According to them, the Raiders system is outdated, and the rest of the league figures out their calls very quickly.

McDaniels received the baton due to his history of winning Super Bowls with the Patriots as an offensive coordinator. Davante Adams, under his coaching, could have been unstoppable, just like Randy Moss or Julian Edelman used to be. Alas, that still remains a pipe dream, as Adams only has 47 receptions for 539 yards in 2023.

After the Lions game, McDaniels spoke with the media regarding the lack of output from one of his star receivers. 

Receivers obviously are; they’re the last in the chain. They’ve got to do their job, but there’s a lot of things that have to happen before that. He got himself open a handful of times and had a few opportunities. We can’t control one another’s jobs. He’ll continue to do that. I know him. He’s a true pro.

He did not say anything about the trade rumors that have surfaced following the defeat. But that window is fast approaching. It will end on October 31 at 4 p.m. When reporters got hold of Adams he refrained from talking too much. According to him anything he said would be blown out of proportion by the media.
