The New York Jets secured an important victory against their AFC East division rivals Buffalo Bills on Monday. However, in the most Jets fashion, they lost big even when they won on the field. The Jets’ star quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury during the first quarter of the game. And now, wide receiver Garrett Wilson has revealed what Rodgers told him following the Achilles injury that ended his season.

“At halftime I just went in to check on him in the training room, just made sure I gave him a hug, told him I love him. It really hurt my heart,” Wilson told ESPN New York radio. “He told me, ‘Sorry, kid.’ Just like that. ‘Sorry, kid.’”

Wilson and Rodgers were expected to be one of the greatest QB-WR duos in the league due to their off-field chemistry. But now that Rodgers is injured, the 2022 Offensive Player of the Year claims that he is truly heartbroken.

“My heart hurts for Aaron. Just seeing him last night and the emotion that was going into him getting out there… it sucks man,” said Wilson, adding that he was “truly heartbroken.”

After making his much-anticipated debut on Monday, Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury during the 4th play of the game. As feared, the MRI on Monday confirmed that Rodgers has indeed ruptured his Achilles. The 39-year-old will miss out the entire 2023 season and many people speculate this could be the end of the road for Rodgers in the NFL.

In his absence, the Jets are expected to roll with Zach Wilson as their starting quarterback for the rest of the 2023 season. It should be noted that Garrett Wilson played a huge role in recruiting Rodgers to New York in the off-season. But he couldn’t even play one full game with the 10-time Pro Bowler.

Following Aaron Rodgers’ brutal season-ending injury, the Jets are expected to start their former second-overall pick Zach Wilson for the remainder of the 2023 NFL season.

The Jets are in the market looking to add a veteran quarterback to their roster but their head coach Robert Saleh claims that the franchise has full trust in Wilson to get the job done.

With a top 5 defense in the league, the Jets are still considered contenders. However, without Rodgers under center, the future is not looking bright for the New York-based franchise.
