Hardly anyone, let alone Garrett Wilson, imagined the New York Jets would win just five games after 14 matchdays. There was chatter about Gang Green finally playing post-season football after going a decade without it.

However, an Aaron Rodgers-less Jets offense currently sits at the bottom of the NFL standings for both offensive yards per game (average 255.1) and touchdowns scored (16). To put this into context, the Carolina Panthers, who are 2-12, have scored three more than them.

A player who scores most of the TDs for the team will be frustrated by such statistics. Wilson is no different. The 23-year-old, who won the offensive Rookie of the Year title last season, can’t seem to get the same level of protection he was looking forward to. And after a horrible 30-0 result last week against the Miami Dolphins, in which he did not see the ball until the third quarter, it added fuel to his discontent.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini asked Wilson what was going through his mind, and he replied,

You practice all week, practice your whole life, and you go out there and play like this. So, disappointing. We had to get to the drawing board and figure it out. The toughest thing is knowing the preparation you put in and all of it going to the—I don’t know, maybe it’s not going by the wayside. But just not being able to put it on display on a Sunday—on a given Sunday—that's the frustrating part about it.

Wilson could do well against the Washington Commanders

The Miami game went horribly wrong. Not only did the Jets fail to score any points, but they also lost quarterback Zach Wilson, who suffered concussions. Veteran Trevor Siemian played the rest of the game. Their combined effort handed Wilson just 26 yards.

Besides a struggling attack, they will likely be without a fresh quarterback if Zach Wilson is not cleared to play. Yet they are a close three-point favorite to win over the Washington Commanders. Two teams who have nothing to play for besides pride (both eliminated from playoff contention).

The Jets would likely provide Wilson with more opportunities, depending on who will be the quarterback. As for Rodgers, the 39-year-old is currently on injured reserve and has less chance of making a comeback before the Cleveland Browns game.
