Geno Smith’s ‘1-word’ message for ex-teammate Russell Wilson goes viral after Broncos’ bizarre decision to bench him for Jarrett Stidham

The Russell Wilson saga in Denver might have come to a premature end after the team announced a change in QB for the remaining two games. Jarrett Stidham will be the team’s starter for the remainder of the season. It was a surprising move considering the fact that the Denver Broncos are still in the race for a playoff spot this season.
The idea that the team was hesitant to hang onto him as a franchise quarterback any longer arose from taking a $37 million hit and the additional weight of not being able to trade their quarterback in the event of a serious injury played a role in this decision. However, Seattle Seahawks’ QB Geno Smith has come out in his former teammate’s defense amidst all this chaos.
Smith took to X and expressed his feelings about the situation. His response was a simple ‘1-word’ post that read:

Smith played under Wilson from 2019 to 2021. He served as Wilson’s backup in Seattle and assumed the role of the team’s starter after Wilson signed with the Broncos last season. After a poor 2022 campaign, Wilson was having a much better season this year and that is why his benching has surprised a lot of people.
Broncos started their season 1-5 and were reeling after the first few weeks. However, they went on a five-game win streak and brought themselves back into the playoff contention. Wilson this season threw for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He has a rating of 98.0 and has completed 66.4 percent of his passes.
Russell Wilson reacts to the Denver Broncos benching him for the final two games
The Denver Broncos came out with a shocking announcement on Wednesday as they benched their star QB Russell Wilson for the remainder of the season. It was shocking because the Broncos are still in the hunt for a postseason berth and Wilson was having a great year for the team. However, HC Sean Payton clarified that Jarrett Stidham will replace Wilson for the team’s last two games. The former Seattle Seahawks QB reacted to his benching on Twitter.
Wilson updated his fans on X, the former name of Twitter, a few hours after the news broke. Fans were left wondering if the brief message hinted at a potential departure from the Broncos organisation in the future. Wilson’s tweet read:
God’s got me. Looking forward to what’s next.Russell Wilson on X
The Broncos will play their next game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. They hold a record of 7-8 through 16 weeks of the season and are in the race for a playoff spot. They will hope that Stidham leads them to the postseason and maybe beyond that.
