It is still a while before the 2023-24 NFL season commences but San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle is already getting a head start on trash-talking his opponents for opening night. Kittle and the 49ers will face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers, this is the first time since 2014 that Pittsburgh will be hosting an opening day game.
It is bound to be an exciting opening night matchup as fans will get to see one of the best tight ends in the game right now go up against one of the best defensive players in the NFL, T.J. Watt. While George Kittle is known for his blocking, Watt is known for his exceptional pass rushing. The tight end believes that he will ultimately end up getting the best of Watt in this battle.

George Kittle appeared on Pardon My Take where he spoke about this year’s Tight End University, an annual camp that gives current TEs the opportunity to learn and improve their game from some of the best to ever do it. It is a three-day fiasco which is hosted by Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, Greg Olsen, and George Kittle. This year, Rob Gronkowski is also set to appear which will greatly benefit the tight ends.
George Kittle is certain about beating T.J. Watt and the San Francisco 49ers on opening night

The tight end spoke in-depth about his abilities and how he has improved this offseason. “If it comes to blocking, I’ll toot my own horn. That’s just stuff I practice my entire offseason. I take all the reps in-season. Like I’m very prideful when it comes to that stuff.” Kittle has never been one to abstain from practices or not show up when needed. His work ethic is one of the best in the entire NFL.
The tight end goes on to add, “When it’s second down and they’re like, ‘Hey, it’s pass-15 weak, you’re one-on-one versus a Cam Jordan. You’re one-on-one versus T.J. Watt, go for it.’ I’m not like, ‘Yeah, like hey, he gets paid millions of dollars to rush the passer.’ But I look at it as an opportunity for me to be like, ‘You’re not going to be able to get past me,’ and I’m very excited about that…”
Kittle is looking forward to the matchup against Watt, he has never been the one to shy away from battle and he surely is not going to start now. The 49ers have made significant changes to their roster as they possess all the necessary weapons on offense.
But the biggest question for the team remains at the QB position, the same position that haunted them in the playoffs last season. Will Trey Lance be healthy? Or will the team start the year with a Sam Darnold until Brock Purdy or Lance are fit to return to the field?
