The NFL announced a few days back that there would be two Thursday Night Football games every season. This news obviously didn’t sit right with team owners, players, coaches, and fans because the physical stress of having athletes play back-to-back games within three days outweighs any and everything.

The latest player to protest against having two TNF games is San Francisco 49ers‘ tight end, George Kittle. He appeared on Theo Von’s podcast This Past Weekend and talked about what goes on in a season for him- from gearing up for a game to his recovery post-matchup.

“I’m in multiple car accidents every Sunday…I’ve had games where I hyper-extended my knee, that’s gonna affect your season,” Kittle said. “Or you burst a bursa sac in your knee. That’s going to be there for several weeks. And if you get lucky, you don’t have to deal with that stuff. It’s a little bit better, but you’re still getting into these car accidents. Really, now how I see it is, if I’m not doing football, I’m doing recovery.”

Not just George Kittle, the same goes for every player in the NFL. The physical tool for playing a contact sport for 60 minutes is a lot to overcome in three days. Everyone in the league is heavily protesting the prospect of having two TNF games for good reason.

Five years ago, legendary quarterback Tom Brady appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and compared playing football to being in a car crash. He said, “I was in a car crash and it wasn’t as bad as getting hit in the football field.”

George Kittle is a tight end, and a very physical one at that. His playing style involves mowing down defenders and gaining yards and scoring touchdowns. Which would explain why he does recovery regularly. If the two TNF rule is passed, then many teams won’t be able to use their star players because they won’t be at their 100 percent.

Despite having troubles at the quarterback position, Kittle managed to form a good bond with each of the three starters for San Francisco in 2022. The 4x Pro Bow tight end was in complete sync with Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy. The two wreaked havoc on defenses toward the end of the regular season and continued the same in the postseason.

George Kittle missed the first two games of the season due to a groin injury but still had a great campaign. The 29-year-old ended the 2022 season with 60 receptions for 765 yards and 11 touchdowns. Kittle hasn’t played a full season since his breakout year in 2018. He’s had an injury in every season and adding two TNF games will only make matters worse for him and everyone in the league.

Let’s see if the NFL Players Association appeals to the officials to cancel their plans of having a two TNF seasons or not.
