Georgia Bulldogs fans could not have asked for a better start to their year as their team defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes 42-41 to advance to the National Championship game.
Ohio State went against the No.1 team in the country, Georgia Bulldogs, in the college football playoffs. The Buckeyes got the playoff spot after they were ranked No.4 in the final CFB playoff rankings as the USC Trojans failed to win their Pac-12 championship game against Utah. The Ohio State team did put up a good fight against the tough Georgia defense.
The Ohio State offense led by their star quarterback CJ Stroud took a commending 38-24 lead in the early fourth quarter and it looked like Ohio St will cause an upset against the defending National Champions. However, Stetson Bennett and the Georgia offense kept up with the Buckeyes and managed to take a 42-41 lead thanks to a 10-yard TD pass from their QB during the last minute of the regulation time.
The Buckeyes had 2 timeouts and 54 seconds and they just needed a field goal to win the game and eliminate the reigning champions. CJ Stroud once again did his magic, this time with his legs, as he ran for 30 yards to get the Buckeyes into field goal range. Georgia fans stomachs must’ve dropped when they saw that impressive 30-yard run by Stroud.
Ohio State decided to kick a 50-yard field goal when they faced a fourth down with 8 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. What happened next won’t be forgotten by the Buckeyes fans anytime soon. The kicker shanked the 50-yarder and missed what would’ve been the game-winning field goal.

Georgia Bulldogs ruined Ohio State fans’ New Year
The greatest thing about the missed field goal was it happened right at the stroke of midnight. The Ohio State fan who might have waited saw their dreams shatter right at the beginning of the New Year.
The missed field goal by the Buckeyes kicker was so bad, even LA Lakers star LeBron James could not comprehend what he saw. The Ohio native tweeted “WTF was that!!!!!!,” after the kicker shanked it.
Georgia Bulldogs will look to successfully defend their championship against Texas Christian University. The Horned frogs defeated the Michigan Wolverines in the Fiesta Bowl to reach the CFB Championship game.
