The Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants facing each other in week 1 has become customary, and so too have the outcome. That trajectory continued on the eve of 9/11 with a 0-40 beatdown from the Star Helmets.
The city of New York seldom forgets anything. When it comes to honoring their heroes and martyrs, they do so with pride. But there’s always a tinge of sorrow for the loved ones who could not make it. The shadow of September 11, 2001, shook the country to its core, and to this day, it remains a red-letter event.
For that reason, almost every year since then, New York franchises have held tributes for the people who sadly passed away on that day. Yesterday, the Giants held a ceremony at MetLife Stadium in remembrance. They covered the field with a massive American flag and played the national anthem.
It was now time for the main business to resume. The New York Giants vs. the Dallas Cowboys commenced as the atmosphere flipped from sorrow to anticipation. But few were expecting what transpired next.
The home side quickly conceded two touchdowns, one from a missed field goal attempt and another from a pick-6. It was the worst possible start any team could have made.
Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was sacked several times by Cowboys rusher Micah Parsons. He capped off the bad day with 15 of 28 rushing yards (43 rushing yards on 13 attempts). Sometimes it felt like he did not want to throw at all.
After the awful performance, fans took to Twitter, now known as X, and compared the loss to 9/11. They claimed that this was the second time New York had seen such scenes.

On that fateful day, a couple of planes crashed into the World Trade Center in downtown New York. The Twin Towers, as they were known, collapsed and took the lives of several people. Later, the State Department revealed it was more than likely a terrorist attack on US soil. When the Dallas Cowboys finished the game with 40 unanswered points, fans criticized the New York Giants, saying it was another massacre.
Well, both sides need to forget the day, especially the Giants. They will welcome the resilient Arizona Cardinals next. The Cowboys, on the other hand, will face the daunting challenge of the New York Jets.
