Looks like the New York Giants aren’t going to hand over the offense to Daniel Jones in 2024. They reportedly picked JJ McCarthy from the top prospects of the 2024 NFL Drafts.

According to NFL Insider Connor Hughes, the Giants have finalized the former Michigan star quarterback using their No. 6 overall pick in the upcoming NFL drafts. Given his phenomenal 29-30 winning record at the Michigan Wolverines, the franchise is bringing him in to replace Jones

League sources spoke highly of McCarthy when polled by SNY. One high-ranking executive said he'll be a 'better pro than college player.' Another general manager said he has everything teams look for—size, athleticism, arm strength, accuracy, and playing in a pro-style offense.

Despite leading Michigan to win three consecutive Big Ten Conference titles, he was hyped as much as top prospects such as Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and Michael Penix Jr. in the upcoming drafts. The part of reason behind this could be McCarthy never focused on leading college football in stats, instead, his focus was on winning the games. And his 29-30 winning record proves this statement well enough.

But there’s certainly no denying the star quarterback’s abilities. He has also been compared to Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow for playing in a first-past offense by an NFL scout.

Giants and Vikings eye Michigan’s QB Star JJ McCarthy

Contrary to the Giants’ move toward the Michigan star quarterback in the upcoming drafts, they aren’t the only ones pursuing the prospect. Another prominent name eying McCarthy is the Minnesota Vikings, who desperately need a starting quarterback for next season.

With Kirk Cousins signing with the Atlanta Falcons, the Vikings have a major quarterback situation which apparently didn’t solve with Sam Darnold’s signing. They signed the former 49ers’ quarterback as the Plan B, that is in case they didn’t find a potential quarterback.

According to DraftKings, the Vikings are the favorite to select McCarthy in the upcoming draft with +180 odds, while the Giants are second with +350 odds. Though Penix is the second-best option for the Vikings if the Giants successfully lock McCarthy.
