The New York Giants nose tackle, Rakeem Nunez-Roches, had an interesting comparison in mind when he spoke with the media about his July 25 accident. He got into a car accident with another vehicle near the Giants facility in the Meadowlands complex. The 30-year-old had to take an unwanted trip to the hospital for a minor concussion.

Nunez-Roches, who joined the blue side of New York this summer, was not expecting a close shave with death while on his way home after practice. After missing five days of training camp, he returned to his usual routine and had this to say about his experience: “Definitely, [I] was fortunate,” Nunez-Roches said before Tuesday’s practice. “Looking at that accident and both vehicles being [totaled], it was an eye-opener.” But the Super Bowl winner with Tampa Bay Buccaneers tried to calm himself after the accident, saying,” I am in a car wreck every week at practice, so it wasn’t anything different.”

The NT position does see a lot of contact action during a match. Naturally, the players have to face the same situation during practice to get acclimated. However, relating a car accident to everyday practice shows how grueling a football player’s life is. Fortunately for the Giants, Nunez-Roches did not have any serious cuts and bruises or anything broken that would keep him out for a long time. He recalls what happened that day. “I saw the other car. She’s going way too fast,” Rakeem Nunez-Roches described the moment to the New York Post. “I was able to apply the brake. [But she hit me, and I spun in a circle.”

A six-year veteran of the game with a mountain of experience behind him Rakeem Nunez-Roches is a well-respected player. His tenacity and dedication are proof that the teams he has played for are constantly ranked in the top 10 in terms of defensive output. Winning is a habit, but consistency is hard to achieve. Even big-name players make mistakes and sometimes get benched. This is why Nunez-Roches has a message for his young teammates.

“I’ve always told the young guys,” he said. “[Even though] the big-money guys are up there, your job is just as big.” He emphasizes that when the more notable names need a breather, the rookies have to step in.

“You come out there and be just as destructive. That’s where you make your name,” Nunez-Roches concluded. The 6-foot-2 giant began his career with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2015. Later, he moved to Tampa and won the Super Bowl with Tom Brady in 2020. In 69 NFL games, he has 82 tackles. The New York Giants signed the former Chiefs guard for a three-year, $12 million contract.
