It looks the Lamar Jackson trade fiasco is finally coming to an endgame after the signing of the former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. by the Baltimore Ravens last weekend.

Lamar Jackson, who requested a trade from the Ravens in early March reportedly played the recruiter role for the Ravens to rope in the Super Bowl-winning wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. And now, some reports suggest that the former league MVP QB will stay and play in Baltimore next season, either under the non-exclusive franchise tag or under a new contract.

Beckham signed a one-year contract worth up to $18 million with the Ravens, so it seems like quarterback Lamar Jackson is betting on himself and will play the 2023 season for the Ravens under the franchise tag. So far in his 5-year-long career, the 26-year-old never had a true number 1 wide receiver. Tight end Mark Andrews has been Lamar’s best offensive weapon in the Ravens.

Now, Odell at this stage in his career is not a true number-one receiver. He’s 30 years old and is coming off of his second ACL injury, so the Ravens can’t expect a 1000-plus receiving yards kind of production from him. But still many people including Greg Jennings believe, a big-name wideout like OBJ choosing Lamar and the Ravens is a good look for them.

During a recent episode of the show First Things First on Fox Sports, the former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings claimed that he loves the signing of the Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr. by the Ravens.

“You put him with this Ravens offense, a guy like Lamar,” said Jennings. “The reason why it’s phenomenal and I’m excited for him and the Ravens is because the narrative had been, ‘I don’t know if receivers want to go play with Lamar.’ It’s not only a good look for Lamar but it ensures to the Ravens & their fans that Lamar will play this season.”

Odell used to be the best receiver in the league at one stage of his career, but the last time he had a 1000-plus receiving yards season was back in 2019. Paying 18 million dollars for a guy who most probably will give the production of a number 2 receiver is a questionable move.

Maybe Odell will surprise everyone by going off in Baltimore while catching passes from Lamar Jackson. Either way, it’s a big season ahead for both the quarterback and the wide receiver.
