The honeymoon period appears to be over for Joshua Dobbs and the Minnesota Vikings. He had a good run while it lasted, and after throwing four interceptions against the Chicago Bears on Monday night, there’s doubt whether he will start the next game against the Las Vegas Raiders or not.

Dobbs was brought in from the Arizona Cardinals after Kirk Cousins suffered a season-ending injury. Even though the Vikings still had rookie Jaren Hall waiting in the wings, they needed someone with experience in the NFL. Additionally, veteran QB Nick Mullens was out with a back injury.

However, Mullens is back and is now part of the active roster. Not only that, they can call upon Hall if required. So after the woeful performance by Dobbs against the Bears, head coach Kevin O’Connell could quite possibly look for every option available at his disposal.

We're going to take a look and evaluate the inventory of plays we have for Josh. We got Jaren back available to us, and then Nick Mullens is available as well.

Joshua Dobbs took responsibility for the loss against the Chicago Bears

The Minnesota Vikings basically thrust Dobbs into the starting quarterback role, tasking him with learning on the job. His first game against the Atlanta Falcons was nothing spectacular, but he won over the Minnesota crowd with a rushing TD.

It was the 268 yards and one TD performance in the New Orleans Saints game that got the Vikings fans excited. A section of the supporters even thought they could move on from Cousins, whose contract is ending after this season.

However, a narrow loss at the hands of the Denver Broncos and now the shambolic four picks against the Bears have thrown Dobbs’ position as the #1 QB going forward into contention. The journeyman took all the blame on himself and will work hard for future games.

I'm frustrated with myself because it starts with me. I'll learn from every single one of them tonight, and we'll use it to build momentum for the next opportunity.

Then again, as Coach O’Connell said, they will look into all the options before the Raiders game, which means there’s a chance that the former 4th-round pick gets replaced by either Hall or Mullen. Dobbs left that decision for the coaches to decide.

Honestly, I think that's a coaching decision.

Joshua Dobbs has thrown for 2,401 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 2023 season (Cardinals + Vikings). He is currently #15 overall with a quarterback rating of 54.9.
