On November 2, 2021, the life of Henry Ruggs III changed forever as he crashed his vehicle into another car, which resulted in the death of 23-year-old Tina Tintor and her dog. Ruggs was reportedly drunk driving with his girlfriend Je’nai Kilgo-Washington, which resulted in the deadly crash. The Las Vegas Raiders immediately released him while he was recovering in the hospital.

And now, more than a year later the fatal crash, Henry Ruggs III has decided to accept a plea deal. On Wednesday, he plead guilty to driving his Corvette while drunk and at speeds up to 156 mph on a city street before crashing it into another vehicle. Ruggs will avoid trial and is expected to be sentenced on August 9.

Under his plea deal, he’ll spend a minimum of 3 years to a maximum of 10 years in prison. The deal is structured in a way that his one-and-half-year house arrest won’t be added to the minimum of 3 years as time already served. Clark County district attorney Steve Wolfson claims that Ruggs possibly could’ve escaped conviction at trial since the evidence they had was improperly obtained at the hospital, and he didn’t want to take that chance.

“I recognize this outcome is not sufficient to punish Ruggs for the loss the Tintor family has suffered,” the district attorney conceded. “But there was a legitimate concern that a court would have suppressed the result of the blood draw. We would have lost the felony DUI charge. We couldn’t take that chance.”

The former Alabama wideout Henry Ruggs III could have faced 2 to 50 years in prison for causing a deadly crash, but he accepted a plea deal with the prosecutors that will keep him in prison for the next 3-10 years.

“Henry entered his plea today in hopes that it will further the process of healing the wounds caused by the accident,” his attorneys said in a statement. Neither Ruggs nor the victim’s family have commented about the situation.

Ruggs was a rising star in the NFL before the crash. He was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders as the 12th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The 24-year-old signed a 4-year rookie deal worth up to $16 million. He registered 921 yards and four touchdowns in 20 games he played for the Raiders.
