“He’s in command,” Seahawks HC Pete Carroll makes a BOLD prediction on Geno Smith’s QB credentials

Pete Carroll confident in Geno Smith
Geno Smith is the guy who will take over starting Quarterback duties for the Seattle Seahawks following the departure of their SuperBowl winning Quarterback Russell Wilson. The Seahawks are rebuilding and possibly on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Wilson. Till then Smith who’s been with the Seahawks for 3 seasons as a backup will be filling in.
Smith has spent 9 seasons in the league mostly as a backup with scanty appearances which. Originally drafted by the New York Jets in the 2nd round of the 2013 NFL draft, he went on to start 2 seasons for the Jets but since then has been a backup in the league for the Jets, the New York Giants, the LA Chargers and since 2019 he’s been with the Seahawks. Many around the NFL trust Geno Smith to be good but his head coach Pete Carroll seems to have a lot of faith in him before the seaosn opener.
“I expect him to be solid.” Pete Carroll on Geno Smith

The Seahawks will begin their season against the man they split with soured relations QB Russell Wilson and his new team the Denver Broncos. Many around the league speculated that the Seahawks would have been in the market to acquire any available starting QB for a respectable outing this season but the Seahawks surprised the world by sticking with Geno Smith and Drew Lock.
Geno Smith was announced as Seahawks starter earlier this off-season and Head Coach Pete Carroll seems to have a lot of confidence in his new starter as he told reporters–“I expect him to be really solid. I expect him to run the offense just like he has been doing it all along. I think he’s well experienced. He’s been around a long time. He’ll be poised about it, and he’s in command of it…….So he’s ready to go. I expect him to play well.”
Smith hasn’t started for nearly a decade with Drew Lock in the wings waiting to prove himself and take over if Smith isn’t up to the task. Smith will be under a lot of pressure to perform and the game against Wilson and his Broncos will be a litmus test for him.
