“His time is coming”: Coach Chris Kiffin is absolutely sure that Myles Garrett will win the DPOY

Myles Garrett set the record last season for the most sacks by any player. Browns defensive line coach Kiffin is positive that Garrett will win the award and he highly deserves it.

“I absolutely see that in his future,’’ Kiffin, told reporters Saturday. “I think he does, too. With him I know it’s only day seven, day six of camp, he’s been locked in more so than I’ve ever seen. He’s out early to everything, he’s really taken the next step, as far as in our defensive line room being the leader.

Kiffin believes in his player and their abilities. Though it’s very early to predict something as the season hasn’t started yet. Garrett was one of the best defensive ends in the NFL last season but didn’t receive a single vote for the DPOY. T.J. Watt received 42 of the 50 votes and went on to win the trophy. Micah Parsons received 5 and Aaron Donald of the Rams received 3. Kiffin was shocked by this.

“Sure. I mean, why wouldn’t he get votes?’’ Kiffin said. “He does everything we ask him to do. He plays the run, he’s all over the field, he hardly comes off the field, he impacts the game a number of different ways, he’s unblockable, has been as advertised, he’s gone through three guys before. So, yeah, I’ll vote for him.’’

“Get some more votes” Myles Garrett said on the opening day of Browns training camp

Garrett got 16 sacks last season more than anyone else in the team, he also has a combined 28 sacks in the past two years. The browns defensive end is failing to get votes but he is succeeding in the team’s dressing room. Garrett has a good command of the position group where he resides.

“Grow as a person, grow as an individual and as a teammate,” Garrett said. “Grow as a leader and help these guys to come along with me. I know that there is always more in the tank for myself but also for them and we have long way to go, but it’s the start of the process and all throughout this preseason and training camp, and I believe we have lot of potential that we can help mold and create something very big here.”

Garrett is a two=time Pro-first-teamer and three-time Pro Bowl selection. he has had 58 sacks in his career and has created 11 turnovers, and to top that all he also has a 99 rating on Madden NFL 23. With such impressive stats and individual honours, there’s only one thing that’s left. The Defensive Player of the Year award.
