Maybe steer clear of the pregame Gatorade from next time.

Maybe it was the Texas heat or a bad pregame meal, or maybe it was just pure jitters that took a toll on Houston Cougars No. 74 Reuben Unije yesterday against the Sam Houston State Bearkats. Even though the home side ran riot, the offensive lineman would remember the game for his rather embarrassing moment.

A video shared on X (formerly Twitter) shows that Cougars player lining up for the next snap. But when he entered the frame, he was throwing all over the place. The quality of the clip is a bit pixelated, but his shirt number is fairly visible. The player in question is Reuben Unije.

Even NFL players get butterflies flying inside their bellies, and this is a college football game where young guns try to carve out a career for themselves. But at the core of everything, it’s still football, and sometimes the tension and just the occasion can get the better of the players.

It is unfortunate for the young player. But to his credit, he did not try to fake an injury that went off for a couple of minutes. On the bright side, not many would have seen it live because the Houston game was telecast on ESPN+. And the clip is not that great, so Reuben Unije can count himself a tad lucky on that front. However, for his and his teammates’ sake, try not to eat anything that upsets the stomach next time.

The Houston Cougars won their second game of the season

In all honesty, the Houston Cougars were the favorites going into the game, despite losing their last two. The reason is that the Bearkats have only managed to move the scoreboard once, adding a meager three points from two games; losing both.

However, the first quarter scoreline yesterday painted a different picture. The Kats were leading by four points at the halfway mark. But the home side kicked into the second year from the next quarter, soon out of sight in the third, and killed the game in the fourth. Houston running back Stacy Sneed scored a 58-yard touchdown to win the game for the Cougars.

Quarterback Donovan Smith (not to be confused with the Kansas City Chiefs‘ offensive tackle) regained the form that he showed against Rice Owls on match day two. The young signal-caller completed 31 of 40 passes for 294 yards and a touchdown. But a player-of-the-match performance from freshman Parker Jenkins stole the show. He had 20 carries for 105 yards and 3 touchdowns.
