“I didn’t really communicate with Kyler Murray,” A.J. Green acknowledges the lack of chemistry in his first season with the Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals did not have a season to boast of last time out, as they fell crashing out of the playoffs in the first round against eventual Super Bowl Champions, Los Angeles Rams. Part of the reason was the ineffectiveness of their quarterback wide receiver duo, Kyler Murray and A.J. Green respectively.
Green joined the Cardinals on a 1-year deal in 2021 from the Cincinnati Bengals and did not hit the ground running as he would have hoped for his new franchise. The 33-year old has now acknowledged that there was a lack of communication between him and Kyler Murray for most of the season, and it is something that they can improve upon in the coming season.
Kyler Murray and A.J. Green need to improve their on-field relationship next season
Speaking on the Arizona Cardinals website, Green said, “There is a lot of room (for growth). For me, it’s communicating with him what I see, what he wants me to do and how he wants me to run this (particular) route.”
“I think last year there was a lacking on my part. I didn’t really communicate with him about stuff like that because I didn’t want to put a lot of stuff on his plate.”
A.J. Green also urged Kyler Murray to be more upfront with him, and talk about the things where the wide receiver should improve upon, something he feels will help him get better as well. All in all, he hopes that the second year with the Arizona Cardinals will be much better if they are able to rectify the small mistakes from last year.
Green continued, “For me, it’s being more in his face, talking together. ‘A.J. you need to do this better,’ and I’ll be like, ‘OK, I’ve got to do this better.’ Don’t be hesitant when it comes to my play. ‘A.J., you need to pick this up.’ The second-year is going to be big for that.”
