“He just didn’t wanna be there,” Ian Rapoport reveals money wasn’t the primary reason for Davante Adams’ departure from the Packers

The Green Bay Packers suffered a massive loss earlier during the offseason, as they lost out on one of their premier wide receivers, Davante Adams. The 29-year old signed a gigantic contract with Las Vegas Raiders to make his exit from the Packers.
At the time, it was believed that Davante Adams’ departure had to do with the sum of money the Packers paid their star quarterback Aaron Rodgers a few days back to make him renew at the franchise. However, NFL Insider, Ian Rapoport has now revealed new details on what happened before the trade took place.
Davante Adams was offered a new contract by the Green Bay Packers before he left
In an interaction during this week’s Pat McAfee Show, Rapoport revealed that the Packers had offered him a new contract to make him stay at the franchise, but it wasn’t enough for Davante Adams as he was desperate to leave.
“They offered him a bigger deal over the first two years than what the Raiders ended up offering. He just didn’t want to be there,” Rapoport said.
The Las Vegas Raiders have made Adams the highest-paid wide receiver in the history of the NFL, as they offered him a five-year contract which will see him pocket a total of $141.25M. During the first two years, he will make about $50M, but Rapoport did not reveal the contract details of what the Green Bay Packers were willing to pay him.
All in all, it will be a very difficult task for the Packers to replace Davante Adams’ quality in offense in 2022, and Aaron Rodgers will have to put in more effort than usual to have a great season once again.
