Russell Wilson just finished a nightmare season with his new team, Denver Broncos. But, many expect the tide to change in Denver and experts predict Wilson to have a better outing next season since the Broncos have paired him up with the Saints legend Sean Payton.
During the first week of February, the Denver-based football team announced Sean Payton as their new head coach in the biggest move of the HC hiring cycle. With this move, Russell Wilson has gotten what he wanted for a long time, i.e., playing under the Super Bowl-winning HC Sean Payton. Yes, the 9-time Pro Bowl QB has reportedly wanted to play for the Saints legend for a long time now.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, when the Seahawks were trying to trade Wilson, the 5’11” quarterback wanted to go to the New Orleans Saints so that he can join forces with Payton.
“That is always true. When he thought about being traded, going to New Orleans with Sean Payton was always something that he wanted. That is all real, and I’ve heard of Russell’s love for Sean for a while. Now, it will either work or won’t, but midway through his career, this is the guy that I know that he can make me a great player,” said Rapoport during his appearance on a recent episode of Pat McAfee Show.
Can Sean Payton and Russell Wilson’s combination steady the ship in Denver?

Russell Wilson’s first year with the Denver Broncos didn’t work out the way he would’ve wanted. The former Super Bowl Champion started the season with huge expectations, only to fail miserably in the end.
However, the Broncos pairing him up with the proven winner Sean Payton will certainly change things for good in Denver. Unlike the rookie head coach Nathaniel Hackett, who couldn’t even survive one season in Denver, Payton has experience for ages.
The 59-year-old HC worked with the New Orleans Saints for 15 long seasons and made the career of the 13-time Pro Bowl QB Drew Brees. His experience will certainly help Wilson to play the game in the right way and lead his team to a Super Bowl in the near future.
On a different note, this is a second story that has broken out this week about how Russell Wilson wanted to work with Payton. Previously, a rumor spread around the league that when Wilson was with the Seahawks, he asked the owner to replace his head coach, Pete Carroll, with Payton. However, Wilson immediately declined the rumor on social media.
