Russell Wilson had the headline last year when he asked for a trade from the Seattle Seahawks. The reason why he took the drastic step of moving on from the team that drafted him in the league was quite interesting, which was revealed almost a year later.

As per reports, Wilson had asked the Seahawks management to fire head coach Pete Carroll and GM John Schneider because they weren’t happy with him chasing personal achievements and awards. Wilson also stated that he wasn’t encouraged to make the Super Bowl run.

Wilson wanted to bring in former Saints head coach Sean Payton, but Seattle wasn’t down with firing the two main pillars of the franchise. Instead, Russell Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos as per his wish. In the end, it worked out quite well for Wilson, as Denver announced Payton as their new head coach earlier in 2023.

The entire league knew the Broncos were just a quarterback away from being a Super Bowl contender, so it was an easy decision for them to sign Russell Wilson. The perennial Pro Bowler also stated that Denver will give the most probability of winning another Lombardi Trophy.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport appeared on The 33rd Team and has an interesting chat with Joey Mulinaro wherein he revealed a pretty interesting detail about Wilson’s trade last offseason. Ian said that the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders were also in the run of landing Russell Wilson as their new quarterback.

“There were times when I was pretty convinced at the Combine that either Eagles or Commanders were going to trade for Russell Wilson. That was one where you kind of stop everything, but it turned out that it was not something he was into and he was only going to the Broncos. That was something that shook my brain last year,” Rapoport said.

This news comes as a shock to everyone. Just imagine what would’ve happened if Wilson made the move of going to either Philly or Washington. The 2022 season would’ve played out completely differently. Here’s how fans reacted to this enlightening piece of information.
