It was always a given that things didn’t go well for Jimmy Garoppolo when he parted ways from the San Francisco 49ers, but what exactly happened remained unknown. Until now! After the 49ers suffered a tragic loss at the Super Bowl, one of the loudest cheers from a Las Vegas resident for the opponents, came from Garoppolo’s younger brother, Billy. Ever since then, the chatters became a bit louder about the 49ers’ fallout with the quarterback.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan, who recently came under negative limelight over his decision to receive overtime, finally addressed the whole controversy surrounding Garoppolo. In a feature piece for the SI, NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recalled his conversation with HC Shanahan, where he revealed why the franchise waived off Garoppolo.

[Jimmy] Garoppolo had a reputation for being aloof in San Francisco, which would drive detail-oriented coach Kyle Shanahan nuts, particularly when, at points of the offseason, the Niners would have trouble getting ahold of him. Some of those problems carried over to Vegas, where a group that knew him, led by GM Dave Ziegler and coach Josh McDaniels, had hoped he’d grow out of some of those tendencies.

Unfortunately on Garoppolo, he didn’t outgrow them and also built the reputation of being injury-prone, just like what happened in his first year at the Las Vegas Raiders. This was the reason why he moved from Santa Clara to Las Vegas and that ought to be the reason why the Raiders are eager to terminate his contract at any given moment.

Jimmy Garoppolo’s future in the NFL remains uncertain

In a game against the New England Patriots, Garoppolo injured his back in the first year and was immediately taken to the hospital, around mid-October. He was benched for the game and due to his inadequate performance, the Raiders benched him for the entire season and his future in the NFL remains uncertain.

He signed a three-year contract deal with the Raiders worth $67.5 million last offseason and within just a year, the franchise is likely to end his tenure

NFL Insider Breer revealed the Raiders have equally become frustrated with the veteran quarterback, just like the 49ers were. In fact, head coach Antonio Pierce reportedly is pulling all ends to secure LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels in the 2024 NFL Draft, whom he previously coached at Arizona State University, to replace quarterback Garoppolo.
