New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is not currently seeing eye to eye with franchise owner, Robert Kraft, ahead of the new 2023/24 season according to leading NFL analyst, Mike Florio. The Patriots have built an enormous legacy of their own under the tutelage of veteran HC Belichick. However, his legacy has suffered a huge dent in recent years, with the Patriots struggling to put up performances of note.

While the 71-year-old coach has led them to all six of their Super Bowl championships, he has failed to emulate that kind of success since the departure of star quarterback Tom Brady in 2019. Since Super Bowl LIII, the Patriots have not had a single postseason victory and only a single appearance in the playoffs.

The lack of positive results in recent years has not gone down well with Robert Kraft who might not want to back the veteran head coach for long if things do not take a turn for the better very quickly. During last season’s final press conference, Kraft had clearly spoken about his conviction to win the seventh Super Bowl title.

Bill Belichick needs to find a way as the Patriots look to qualify for the playoffs in 2023/24

Kraft also hinted that while he wants Belichick to break down Shula’s record of 347 wins, he would appreciate it more if the Patriots returned to winning ways sooner rather than later. He made it abundantly clear that making the playoffs in 2023 is of paramount importance to him rather than personal records.

“Look, I’d like him to break Don Shula’s record,” Kraft replied to a question about letting Bill Belichick break Down Shula’s record of most wins.“But I’m not looking for any our players to get great stats. We’re about winning, and doing whatever we can to win. And that’s what our focus is now. And I — it’s very important to me that we make the playoffs, and that’s what I hope happens next year.”

As things stand however, in terms of quality within the Patriots roster winning a Super Bowl might seem very hard given the amount of quality that other franchises have in their ranks. Winning the AFC East division against the likes of the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets and Miami Dolphins will be an uphill task given their strength on paper. Bill Belichick has also hinted that the Patriots have not spent as freely as they should have in signing players since Brady’s departure. Robert Kraft on the other hand has blamed it on the head coach, claiming that in reality, Belichick is the one who hasn’t asked for funds to be spent.

Belichick however will know that football games aren’t won on paper, and the head coach has plenty of experience of leading inexperienced teams to glorious victories in the past. The Patriots are undoubtedly going through a rough patch at the moment, but there’s always light at the end of the tunnel, which should arrive soon for Belichick and Co. if they play their cards right this season.
