Caitlin Clark received a special surprise at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena. It was when the San Francisco 49ers star tight end and Iowa alumni George Kittle went to see her second-round showdown against West Virginia. 

Kittle, who used to play for the Hawkeyes’ football team was accompanied by his wife and former member of the women’s basketball team, Claire Kittle. The couple came all the way to Iowa City, Iowa to support the women’s basketball team in the NCAA tournament game.

Interestingly, it was the same place where the love birds: George and Claire first met each other as freshmen at the University of Iowa. Claire also shared a few Instagram stories from the night, including one with her husband, captioned:

The 49ers star also shared a picture of him and his wife standing together with Iowa star Clark in the middle on his Instagram story. He can be seen sporting an old Iowa jersey with Claire’s maiden name written on it, paired with yellow sneakers, while his wife decked up in an all-black attire. 

“Back in Carver!” captioned the NFL tight end. George played for the Hawkeyes under head coach Kirk Ferentz for five years, during which he posted 737 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. 

Meanwhile, his wife Claire played for the basketball team for four years. Unfortunately, she couldn’t make a career in it after sustaining a grave knee injury in her senior year of college, which ended her career. 

How did George Kittle meet his future wife, Claire?

The 49ers tight end met his wife Claire for the first time in 2012 at the University of Iowa during their freshmen year. They had an adorable first moment as he was standing outside his dormitory with his roommate and she was in the parking lot, where George saw her.

But the tight end had earlier clarified when he first saw Claire it wasn’t love at first sight. He was curious about her as one of his friends told him, “She’s a total b*t**,” but he wanted to find out whether it was true. 

So, after spotting her in the parking lot, George went straight to her and complimented her helmet, which was bright pink. They eventually became friends, but it took him eight months in the ‘friend zone’ to finally be able to date her.
