Dan Snyder is reportedly in the middle of selling the majority stakes of the Washington Commanders franchise amidst the NFL’s investigation of the team about toxic workplace complaints. According to multiple reports, one of the potential buyers could be Amazon’s founder and Billionaire Jeff Bezos.

Snyder and his wife Tanya Snyder hired Bank of America to consider possible transactions regarding the Commanders in November per multiple reports. The financial services company accepted the first round of bids in December which turned out to be an underwhelming one. Reportedly none of the bids exceeded the 6.3 billion dollars mark and Amazon’s founder did not bid for the franchise.

However, that doesn’t mean Bezos is not planning on buying the franchise. Many people believe that Jeff Bezos didn’t bid because he didn’t want to end up overbidding for the franchise. So, he could’ve essentially just scouted the bidding results. Bezos is the third richest person in the world with a wealth of over 119 billion dollars and if he really want to own the franchise, no one could outbid him.

Furthermore, the current owner Dan Snyder allegedly doesn’t want to sell the team to the Amazon founder due to his disdain towards the Washington Post which Bezos owns. But the Bank of America which is overseeing the transactions continues to court Bezos despite Snyder’s unwillingness to sell to him.

Amidst this situation, the multi-billionaire Jeff Bezos reportedly hired a New York-based investment firm to assess the possible bidding amount to own the Washington-based football team.

It is unclear whether Bezos will really make a bid for the team. However, the hiring of the investment firm Allen & Company, who also handled the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos sales, indicates he’s certainly tempted to own an NFL franchise.

Still, the sale of the franchise would require approval from at least three-fourths of the NFL franchise’s owners. The last NFL franchise to have a switch in ownership was the Denver Broncos. They were sold last year to the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group for a record price of 4.65 billion dollars.

Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders fans and the coaches would like the whole process to be over before the new league year begins on March 15, so that the team can concentrate on free agency and the NFL draft without any outside distractions.
