Texas A&M fired Jimbo Fisher from the head coach post due to the poor run they were on this season. Shortly afterward, Dan Campbell‘s name kept popping up as the replacement for the SEC heavyweights.

It’s a win-win situation for both parties because Campbell is an alumnus of Texas College. He played for the Aggies from 1995 to 1998 and should be familiar with how the school program operates.

However, there’s a slight bump on the road. Even before the talks could begin, it seems Campbell’s camp is unwilling to listen to the offer. The reason is simple: he is busy guiding the Detroit Lions to an epic resurgence in the NFL.

As per CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd, Campbell is quite happy with the Lions job and wants to continue in the motor city. He was appointed to the post back in 2021, and since then has finished fourth and second in the NFC North.

There’s one aspect of the A&M job that might entice the 47-year-old to change his decision, and that is the pay. According to reports, Fisher was paid nearly $80 million to not coach the team. Currently, Campbell earns around $6.5 million a year. But the Lion-hearted head coach of the Lions has prioritized securing the best-ever finish for the Detroit franchise since the early 1990s.

Dan Campbell’s record as Detroit Lions head coach

When Sheila Firestone Ford Hamp announced Dan Campbell as the head coach of the Detroit Lions, it turned a lot of heads. Many even speculated that she would move on from the former NFL tight end within a year.

Campbell, before getting the Lions gig, had previously been the interim head coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2015, winning five games and losing seven. Afterward, he joined the Saints as the quarterback and tight end coach.

The Super Bowl winner with the Giants during his playing days has done relatively well in Detroit. Despite a shaky 3-13 start in the first year, he bounced back, finishing second in the division and winning nine games. However, 2023 has been the breakout year; with 7 wins and 2 defeats, they sit first in the NFC North ahead of the likes of the Vikings and Packers.

Spearheaded by the second coming of quarterback, Jared Goff, who has 2,507 passing yards and 14 touchdowns, along with 2 rushing TDs, the Lions have their sight set on the No.1 seeding in the NFC. They added a few exciting rookies such as Sam LaPorta, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Brian Branch, and the experienced heads of David Montgomery and Amon-Ra St. Brown are a force to be reckoned with.
