Football is one of the most physically demanding sports in the world. Those who choose to take up the challenge dedicate most of their lives to building their bodies. Every position in the game puts a lot of strain on the player, some more than others. The wide receiver is one such role that not everyone can master, as it requires someone with both pace and awareness. Playing at the top of one’s game is challenging enough, but enduring the physical toll of an injury while still performing can be grueling for players. The New York Giants’ Isaiah Hodgins went through one against the Minnesota Vikings.

Hodgins, who will be entering his second season with the New York franchise, has already caught the eye of many Giants faithful with his displays on the field. After a disappointing stint with the Buffalo Bills, his outstanding first season with the Giants surprised many. Some even believe that Hodgins may be the savior that quarterback Daniel Jones needed last year to maintain his relevance in the league.

Many would cower from even walking with an injured foot, but the 24-year-old San Jose native displayed one of his best games to date against Minnesota. Hodgins recently made an appearance on the 2nd Wind Podcast and revealed that he had a swollen ankle in the wildcard game against the Vikings.

“I actually ended up having like a slight fracture in my foot, which kind of happened on Friday before the game. I thought it was just a high ankle sprain. It was all black and blue. I was very nervous going into my first playoff game. My ankle was so fat. It got to a point when I had to say, If I have to run an in-cut, we gotta switch sides; I can’t plant that deep off this foot.” It was a memorable game for Isaiah Rodgers, as he caught eight balls for 105 yards and a touchdown.

Isaiah Hodgins’ outstanding performance last season was lauded by all quarters. Pro Football Focus’ Sam Monson recently made a list of players that he thinks will have a great 2023 season.

“Hodgins ended up earning the best PFF grade on the team,” Monson wrote. “He (Isaiah Hodgins) didn’t drop any of his 45 targets. He was the best on the team, earning a 123.3 passer rating.” Moreover, Hodgins’ four touchdowns were the joint-highest among the Giants wideouts.

Monson claimed he wouldn’t be surprised to see Isaiah Hodgins double his output in 2023. Last year, in his eight regular-season games, Hodgins managed 33 passes for 351 yards.
