Jack Jones could be facing up to 30 years in prison after he was caught with two loaded firearms at Logan Airport in Boston last Friday, June 16. On-site security called the troopers at the baggage checking counter after the x-ray machine spotted the guns inside Jones’ belongings.
They took him to the barracks and questioned why he was traveling with loaded guns. Later, they set a $50,000 bail for the New England Patriots man. According to his ticket, Jones was traveling to Los Angeles International Airport.
The rules at the airport are very strict, and people have to abide by them all the time. Carrying an unannounced weapon can be very dangerous. According to Christopher Dearborn, a law professor at Suffolk University, possessing a firearm carries an 18-month minimum term in jail or 2½-year in state prison.
He also emphasized that possession of ammunition carries a maximum penalty of 2½-year. Moreover, a large-capacity feeding device lasts a minimum of 2½-year years or a maximum of 10 years.
“Firearms can be transported on a commercial aircraft only if they are unloaded,” said the TSA. But they also revealed that the weapon needs to be “packed in a locked, hard-sided case and placed in checked baggage.” Jones followed neither of the protocols, hence the possible charges.
The TSA also explained that possession of “firearm frames, receivers, clips, magazines, or any type of replica firearm” is a criminal offense.
James Borghesani, a spokesperson for Suffolk District Attorney Kevin R. Hayden’s office, said Jack Jones may even face “more than 30 years in prison” if he were to be convicted for the charges.

How do the Patriots handle the Jack Jones situation?

Jack Jones was in line for a great 2023 season, was frequent in the Patriots OTAs, and attended the mandatory minicamp last week. The 25-year-old cornerback was a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He started well, but a knee injury ended his rookie campaign. Moreover, Jones served a two-game, undisclosed suspension. Some say he had a heated argument with Head Coach Bill Belichick.
The Patriots seemed to have given Jones the green light as he practiced with the main squad ahead of veteran Christian Gonzalez. Coach Belichick has an eye for talent, and Jones looked like the next big star. But then again, not everything goes according to plan.
The funny thing is that Jack Jones, not too long ago, took a swipe at NBA star Ja Morant for a similar reason about the possession of a gun. Now he finds himself in the same boat but in even more treacherous waters.
The Patriots will have to wait a bit until Jones’ court appearance tomorrow. Otherwise, they will have to rethink their defense strategy. Usually, legal procedures take a lot of time to wrap up, and Patriots don’t have that liberty.
If we go by what Dearborn said to The Boston Globe, then Jones may eventually end up in limbo, resulting in prison time.
