The Jacksonville Jaguars have once again earned the No. 1 overall draft pick for the second season in a row. However, this time they are hell bent on utilising it to the fullest, after their struggles in the last year.
The Jaguars had a horror season in 2021 which saw their head coach Urban Meyer being dismissed mid season and they brought in new coach Doug Pederson. The new coach warned the franchise that they need to utilise the No.1 draft pick this time around to bring in a player who would improve their side by leaps and bounds.
Doug Henderson knows the importance of the No.1 pick

Speaking at a press conference alongside Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke, the head coach spoke of the importance the first choice pick would carry next season.
“You better be right,” Pederson said. “That person is going to come in and start. That’s why you pick him first overall.”
Trent Baalke said that the franchise had not yet decided on who they would choose in a couple of days’ time, but they would make the decision soon enough.
“The pick doesn’t have to be made today, so there’s no sense in forcing it right now,” Baalke said. “We still have several meetings to go through, a lot of discussion between the coaching staff and the personnel staff. We’re continuing to dig up and do research on these guys.
“We’ve got plenty of time. We’re ahead of last year’s schedule in terms of preparation. We’ve worked hard to get there. The decision doesn’t have to be made right now, so why make it?”
