Last year, a shocking scandal took over the Jacksonville Jaguars organization by storm as they found out one of their employees embezzled more than $22 million from the organization. Later, the alleged employee, Amit Patel, pleaded guilty to the crime. And now, new reports have emerged details about how he spent his money on luxury items, including Tiger Woods‘ putter and private jets.
According to a recent report from ESPN, Patel, who was involved in a wire fraud, spent his stolen money on many luxury items. He spent his money on the golf legend Tiger Woods’ 1996 putter and private jets, according to court reports filed on Tuesday, obtained by ESPN.
Furthermore, he also spent more than $275,000 to retain his attorney, Alex King. In the court filing, the prosecutors have tried to rebut King’s previous argument about how his client’s behavior of stealing money was fueled by his gambling addiction and how nearly 99% of the stolen money was used to settle his gambling losses.
Instead, now, the prosecutors claim nearly $5 million of the ‘misappropriated funds” went to his personal expenses for living a luxurious lifestyle. According to the filing, Patel initially transferred nearly $20 million to his FanDuel account and $1 million to his DraftKings account. He used the rest of the money on various expenditures, including $40,000 at Amazon and BestBuy and nearly $600,000 at Apple products.
However, later, he transferred $5 million from his FanDuel account to other personal accounts, including PayPal, and spent it on luxurious items. These new details from the documents have shocked many. Patel’s attorney King refused to comment on the documents.
Amit Patel continued to spend stolen money even after he was fired by the Jaguars
Amit Patel worked for the Jaguars organization from 2019 to 2023. He was fired by the team back in February 2023 after he was accused of committing wire fraud and stealing approximately $22 million from the team.
And now, new reports reveal Patel continued to spend his stolen money even after he was caught and fired by the team. He used the money to pay his annual dues at the country club.
Ironically, he also purchased a game-worn Trevor Lawrence jersey using the money he stole from the team. He spent $2,200 on the jersey just three days after prosecutors filed charges against him, according to reports.
The prosecutors are recommending an 8-year prison sentence for Patel. He has already pleaded guilty and is now waiting patiently for his sentence on Tuesday.
