The New York Giants selected the Tennessee product Jalin Hyatt in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft to address their needs at the wide receiver position. Hyatt might end up becoming the steal of the draft as he possesses many qualities to become a top receiver in the league. Ahead of rookie season, the talented pass catcher revealed that he has made a change in his jersey number and is looking to build his own legacy while wearing No.13, which was once worn by Odell Beckham Jr. in New York.
Hyatt met the Baltimore Ravens WR Odell Beckham Jr. in the off-season. The rookie claims to be a big fan of the former Giants receiver. However, Hyatt had different reasons for choosing number 13.
“I was surprised he knew who I was,” Hyatt said, via the Giants.com. “It shows a lot of love that he has for the Giants. A lot of respect for him. What he did here – had a great career with the Giants and kind of took over. I was a fan when I was young watching him.”
When it comes to choosing number 13, Hyatt said that he is a lower-number kind of guy and wanted to wear No.11 since that’s what he used to wear in Tennessee. But the franchise has number 11 retired in honor of the Super Bowl-winning QB Phil Simms. So, Hyatt settled with the next best thing.
“With the jersey number, it’s just one of those things I wanted to start my own legacy. I like low numbers, and if I had to choose a number it’d be 11, but it’s retired here, so can’t go with that one, so 13 would be the next option,” said Hyatt.

Odell Beckham Jr. approves Jalin Hyatt’s changing his number to #13

The Baltimore-based football team’s new addition Odell Beckham Jr. shared a four-word message after the Giants receiver Jalin Hyatt changed his jersey number from 84 to 13.
“ROCK OUT ONE THREE @jalinhyatt [rocket emoji],” posted OBJ on the social media platform X. Beckham Jr. used to wear 13 and made it iconic with his consecutive 1300+ receiving yards seasons and a remarkable one-handed catch, now Hyatt will look to do the same.
Previously, wide receiver David Sills was wearing the number 13, but he failed to make the 53-man roster with the Giants this year. Sills has now landed on the practice squad with the Denver Broncos. Jalin Hyatt got the number 13 after Sills left New York.
Nevertheless, the rookie pass catcher Jalin Hyatt and the NY Giants will start their 2023 campaign with a tough home game against their NFC East division rivals Dallas Cowboys on September 10.
