Safety Jamal Adams returned to the field of play for the Seattle Seahawks yesterday against the New York Giants. But his night came to an unceremonial ending after a bad collision.
Adams hadn’t kicked a football for 385 days and was eagerly waiting to start once more. He had suffered a quadriceps tendon tear early last season. Since then, he has been in rehab, recovering.
Unfortunately, the return did not go as planned. The 28-year-old sustained a head injury on his ninth snap while trying to tackle Giants quarterback Daniel Jones. The replay showed Jones’ knee hitting Adams’ head. He was immediately taken off and escorted to the medical tent for further checkups. Moments later, news arrived that the three-time Pro Bowler was placed under concussion protocol and did not return to the game.
But by the looks of it, Adams wasn’t very pleased with the decision. The camera caught him yelling at the league’s unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant. Even if he was positive about carrying on, the doctor’s words are final when it comes to the players’ safety. Two members of the Seahawks crew stopped Adams and took him inside the locker room tunnel.
The LSU alumnus was eager to play on Monday night. In an interview with ESPN.com, Jamal Adams revealed that he was so down with the injury that he contemplated giving up football.
“It was tough,” he said. “I thought about retiring. Is this going to be it for me? But after I got that MRI, I told myself I was going to be back.”
However, being on the protocol means he will at the very least miss out on the next week’s game. It is not the ideal situation, but the Seahawks have to cope with it.
Pete Carroll provided an update on Jamal Adams
The Seattle Seahawks ran riot at MetLife on Monday, registering 24 points and only conceding 3. Another praiseworthy performance from the offensive line as they sacked Daniel Jones 10 times. But the departure of Jamal Adams left a sour taste in Seattle’s mouths.

After the game, head coach Pete Carroll spoke about the situation. “He’s going to be OK,” Caroll told the press in the post-match press conference. “He got kicked in the head, and so he misses this game. The preparation to get him to this, and then the week coming off, he’s going to be fine.”
The win over the Giants means the Seahawks have three wins this season in four games. Next, they will be facing the struggling Cincinnati Bengals on October 15.
