Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase absolutely okay with Joe Burrow missing the first half of the season as long as he gets ‘100%’ fit for the business end

The Cincinnati Bengals season is in jeopardy after their franchise QB Joe Burrow suffered a calf injury during training camp a couple of weeks ago. Burrow was carted off the field, but the team hasn’t provided any updates on his injury yet. Amidst this, Burrow’s teammate and best friend Ja’Marr Chase doubles down on his initial comments about Burrow’s return.
The Bengals’ Pro Bowl pass catcher wants Burrow to completely heal from his injury before stepping onto the football field again. “We’ll be OK as long as he’s there for the end of the season. We’re worried about the big picture, not the small picture here. That’s what we’re trying to win here,” Chase told reporters during a locker room interview.
Chase also mentioned how he took his time to return to the field while recovering from the injury during the 2022 season. “I gave myself an extra game to heal. I didn’t rush nothing, I made sure I was ready to be back even though I felt good the week before. I just told them I didn’t want to play,” said Chase. The talented wide receiver wants his friend Joe to do the same thing.
These comments echo similar sentiment to Ja’Marr Chase’s previous comments when he said that he doesn’t want Burrow to be back for the Bengals’ 2023 season opener against the Cleveland Browns.
The Bengals would also have a similar strategy. Neither Bengals nor Burrow would want to risk bigger injuries by rushing onto the field. As of now, the franchise hasn’t given a timeline for Burrow’s return. He could be back with the team for week 1 of the 2023 NFL regular season if he gets fully healthy.

Will the injury affect Joe Burrow’s contract negotiations?
Burrow is entering the final year of his rookie deal with the Bengals. He has been negotiating his extension with the Cincinnati-based football team for a few months now.
Burrow was reportedly waiting for the Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert to get his extension done. Now that Herbert signed a huge 5-year contract with the Chargers, Burrow was expected to get his deal done before the 2023 season.
However, an unfortunate calf injury might affect his negotiations. Some experts believe this injury could affect Burrow’s negotiations while others believe the Bengals would still give the young QB his massive contract.
Nonetheless, Burrow still has the upper hand in the negotiations as he’s currently one of the best quarterbacks in the league. In his short career so far, he has already led the Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance. This calf injury will not affect his negotiations on a bigger scale.
