The Cincinnati Bengals have something that most franchises dream of a quarterback and receiver duo of Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase. Both have formed a telepathic partnership between them. However, Ja’Marr’s father, Jimmy Chase, did not even want his son to sign for the Bengals in the first place.

On the occasion of Father’s Day, both the fathers of Ja’Marr Chase and Joe Burrow, who are co-incidentally both named Jimmy, joined Bengals Booth Podcast host Dan Hoard for a special “Child of Mine.” When Hoard asked Jimmy Chase how he felt when his son joined the Bengals, he replied that he did not want his son to move to Cincinnati. “I don’t know anything about Cincinnati,” said Jimmy, “they’re not that good right now.” Then he mentioned that he would have preferred Ja’Marr move to Miami:Why don’t we just go to South Beach and watch Ja’Marr on the team, right?”

But that did not happen in the end. Chase, who was projected for the top 10 pick in the 2021 draft, and franchises like Cincinnati, Miami, Atlanta, and Philadelphia locked horns to sign the talented youngster. Eventually, he signed for $30.8 million for four years with the Bengals.

Both Ja’Marr Chase and Joe Burrow graduated from LSU and played for the Tigers. They had already formed a great partnership with Justin Jefferson. In 2019 the duo reached the national championship with a 15-0 record.

While talking with Hoard Ja’Marr’s father, Jimmy Chase revealed that Joe Burrow might have had a big role in convincing his son to join the Bengals. Jimmy learned that Ja’Marr had received a text message one week before the NFL Draft. “Dad, Joe texted me,” Ja’Marr told his father. Later throughout the week, “he had talked to Joe and texted him once or twice,” said Jimmy Chase.

Ja’Marr even vowed that if he and Burrow were to reunite, “they would kill it in Cincinnati.” Yet his father wasn’t sure about the move, and it’s not wrong to believe that. The Bengals had a bad 2020 with a 4-11-1 record, and Joe Burrow even tore his ACL midway through the season. But when a friend comes calling, you have to respond, and Ja’Marr did just that.

After signing with the Bengals, both the Chase and Burrow families met and had a meal together while discussing Cincinnati. When they left the table, Jimmy Chase was finally convinced that his son was in the right place.
