On Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers led by their star quarterback Brock Purdy went against their NFC West division rivals Arizona Cardinals in their week 4 matchup. The Niners ended up securing a dominant victory against the Cardinals and remain undefeated in the 2023 NFL season. After the heated division game, the Cardinals running back James Conner got into a fight with the 49ers defensive back Talanoa Hufanga.
Tempers were flaring high between the two division rivals as the 49ers’ All-Pro defensive back Talanoa Hufanga had to be held back by the tight end George Kittle after he was viciously stuck in the face by the Cardinals RB James Conner while the two were exchanging some heated words on the field.
In a brief video posted by the NFL on the social media platform X, the Cardinals running back could be seen viciously grabbing Hufanga’s jaw after the two seemingly argued about something. The Niners tight end George Kittle and the Cardinals offensive lineman Keith Ismael had to intervene to stop the scuffle from escalating. Check out the footage of the incident attached below.
It is unclear what led to the scuffle, but Hufanga confirmed in the press conference that Conner approached him after the game. James Conner and the Cardinals did not have a good outing on the field as they got dominated by the Niners. In the end, the 49ers won the game 35-16 and improved to 4-0. They are one of the only 2 teams that remain undefeated in the ongoing season.
Talanoa Hufanga takes a shot at James Conner following their scuffle
The 49ers defender Talanoa Hufanga and the Cardinals running back James Conner got into a vicious scuffle on the field after their week 4 matchup on Sunday. Following the scuffle, Hufanga took a shot at Conner in the post-game press conference.
“Yeah, my man came up to me,” Hufanga told KNBR’s Jake Hutchinson. “I honestly don’t know what he was trying to show me. He only ran for 52 yards, so I don’t know what he was really on, but told him we’ll see him next time again. Took the L today, but they’ll be good.”
This scuffle has made the Cardinals-49ers rematch in week 14 a much more interesting one. Nonetheless, for now, Hufanga and the Niners will be focused on the Dallas Cowboys, who they are scheduled to face this Sunday in their week 5 matchup.
