On Sunday, Jared Goff will face his former team, the Los Angeles Rams, in the NFC Wild Card round. This will be the first time he will face the Rams since his trade back in 2021, in which Matthew Stafford went the other way.

Goff spent five years in LA, earning two Pro Bowl nods for his performances. Stafford, on the other hand, led the Rams to a Super Bowl victory in his first season at SoFI. To most football fans’ eyes, Sean McVay‘s side definitely gets the better deal compared to Detroit. It put a chip on Goff’s shoulder, and the 29-year-old is ready to face it head-on.

Of course. I think it'll never leave me, and I think that's a good thing. I so badly want to win a playoff game for this city that hasn’t had one in so long.
Goff said, as per ESPN‘s Eric Woodyard

The scenario was only possible because the Los Angeles Rams beat the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Table on the final day of the season. It made sure they finished second behind their divisional rivals and secured the 6th seed in the conference.

On the other hand, Goff led the Detroit Lions to their first divisional title since the early 1990s. Detroit edged past the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18 to win the NFC North and end the season as the 3rd seed in the NFC.

Matthew Stafford’s wife was delighted to hear that her husband will get the chance to face his old team as he enters the twilight of his NFL career. Not only will he be playing the Lions, but the venue of the game will be Ford Field in Detroit.

Despite the ongoing campaign by Lions fans preventing anyone from wearing a Stafford jersey from his Detroit days, there will be a few present who remember his era in Motor City. And the same goes for Jared Goff, who had a 42-28 record in LA and played postseason ball twice. He is itching to play the Los Angeles Rams.

We’ve got a home playoff game for the first time in so long, and that’s so much more important than anything personally for me. I want to be a part of this win and do my job to the best of my ability.

This will be the first time since 2016 that the Lions will be playing post-season football. According to SportsLine Sportsbook, they are the three-point favorites to secure a place in the next round.
