On Sunday, the Detroit Lions, led by their star quarterback Jared Goff, went against the Dallas Cowboys and suffered a brutal loss in their Week 17 matchup. Following the controversial ending to the game, the Lions’ signal-caller sounded off on NFL officiating, eventually costing them the game.

During the post-game press conference, Jared Goff addressed the media and talked about the controversial ending to the game that enraged many fans.

Pretty confused. What I do know, and I don't know if I'll get fined for this. But I do know that Decker reported. I do know that Dan Skipper did not. And I do know that they said that Dan Skipper did.

The incident happened during the final seconds of the fourth quarter when the Lions attempted a 2-point conversion to take the lead instead of kicking a field to tie the game. During the 2-point attempt, Goff completed a pass to his offensive lineman, Taylor Decker, who was left wide open in the endzone by the Cowboys defenders.

However, the successful attempt was called back as the referees called an illegal touch penalty on Decker. Immediately after the penalty, it was assumed that Decker had failed to alert the referees about his eligibility. But now, Goff claims that Decker did notify the refs, but he doesn’t understand how the officials still called a penalty on him.

As a result of the penalty, the Lions had to try converting a 2-point attempt again. Eventually, the Lions failed to do it, and the Cowboys ended up narrowly escaping a loss in the crucial Week 17 game.

Taylor Decker also claims he alerted the referees

Following the wild ending to the Lions-Cowboys game on Saturday, Detroit’s left tackle Taylor Decker also confirmed to the media that he notified the refs of his eligibility.

All I really want to say on it, just so I don't get myself in trouble. I did exactly what coach told me to do. Went to the ref, said, 'Report'.
Decker said

There are many videos circulating on social media that prove Taylor Decker went to the officials before the 2-point attempt. However, the referees said Lions offensive lineman Dan Skipper was the one who reported to them and not Decker.

Nonetheless, the Lions suffered a brutal 20-19 loss and fell to an 11-5 record. This loss is crucial since the Lions are almost certainly out of the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoff picture.
