Jonathan Owens, the husband of American Olympian Simone Biles, knows a thing or two about being the center of jokes. But even he probably wasn’t prepared to get a surprise mention during the latest episode of the New Heights podcast with Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce.

The brothers were scrolling through the nominations for the People’s Choice Award Athlete of the Year award. Travis was one of the nominees, along with Biles. Being the jokester Jason is, he didn’t pass up on the opportunity to take a slight dig at Owens’ expense.

Owens, besides making headlines on the pitch for the Green Bay Packers, ended up on the bad side of social media for comments he made about his wife, Biles. While appearing on the Pivot Podcast along with Biles, Owens went into the details of how the two met.

Usually, it’s always a very romantic moment for most people, but not for these two. Owens revealed that he wasn’t even aware of the 26-year-old until she messaged him on Instagram. Then he went on to provide a somewhat bizarre explanation as proof of his argument.

The 27-year-old claimed that his family didn’t have the channel that showed Olympic events. Not only that, he also called him ‘the catch’ over his gold medal-winning gymnast wife.

It’s that time of the year when fans vote for their favorite athlete from various sports. Both Travis Kelce and Simone Biles have been chosen to be one of the nominees this year.

But they will face tough competition from equally popular faces. They are LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Coco Gauff, Sabrina Ionescu, and Lionel Messi. Now, older Kelce words make sense. His cheeky jab on who was more popular between the couple. And Biles being in the mix for the prestigious award gives her a massive edge over Owens.

That aside, the nominations themselves created a bit of confusion on social media. According to several voters, they weren’t familiar with who Ionescu was. They argued it would have been better if they had chosen her MVP-winning teammate Breanna Stewart or WNBA Finals MVP A’ja Wilson.
