The San Francisco 49ers’ Brock Purdy has led his team to a Super Bowl appearance in only his second season in the league. The former last pick of the draft has had a phenomenal year and will look to end it on a high by winning the Super Bowl. However, Purdy’s season hasn’t been smooth sailing at all as he has faced a lot of criticism throughout the campaign, despite winning a lot of games.

Cam Newton, the former NFL MVP, is a massive Brock Purdy critic. The former Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots QB recently claimed that Purdy isn’t a top 10 player on the 49ers, despite having a stellar season and being in the running to win the league MVP. His comment has not gone well with former NFL player and current analyst, Warren Sapp.

I was going through the list. I got him around seventh or eighth. Cam’s just being an a**. I don’t know why, but he is… If you not that guy, let’s not get on these podcasts talking like you was that guy.

Purdy, in the regular season, led the league in yards per attempt (9.6) and passer rating (113.0). Although his numbers have dipped in the postseason, he was still very effective in the Niners’ wins against the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round and the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship game.

Brock Purdy wants to ‘come out firing’ during the Niners-Chiefs Super Bowl

The San Francisco 49ers have a great chance to avenge their Super Bowl LIV loss to the Kansas City Chiefs four years ago. They will take the field with a different quarterback though, with Brock Purdy under center this time. He has had a phenomenal run to the Super Bowl and is looking to come out all guns blazing against the Chiefs in the title game.

Purdy said during his press conference on Friday:

I feel like all of us, we’re sort of learning just that chip on our shoulder, the mindset of our backs being against the wall and we need it. That’s when our best style of ball comes out and we all step up to the plate and play our best... when we needed to come back, we step it up, we pick it up, the intensity, everyone’s just on it and on point. So, if we can have that kind of mindset early on, just like we have all year and come out firing away, I think that’s when our defense plays well with that.

Purdy and the Niners overcame a 17-point deficit in the second half against the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship game. They would like to avoid a similar scenario in the ultimate game and look to take care of business in a much more clinical way.
